Wearable Technology

WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH

To start of this project I have done some research into different places you could have on your person a wearable technology. I came across some pretty strange ideas before I found one I liked and thought I could make work practically.

This is one of the first things i came across  it is a mock up of a wearable iphone, I like the idea that you have it strapped to your hand so that eliminates accidently dropping it, but I think having something that is rather delicate strapped on you without having any sort of protection over the screen is not a great idea, it leaves you with more chance of doing damage to it than having a normal hand held device. I also think the links between your fingers could get irritating.

This is a wearable projection computer, the display is projected onto a surface and it's controlled by voice recognition and hand gestures, I like the idea of this although i think the voice recognition could be a problem because it hasn't proven itself to be very reliable in the past, I do think though that this could work being controlled completely by hand gestures.

"Inner cyborg" this is a concept for a device that you get implanted into your skin like a tattoo, it carries micro LEDs that turn your skin into an interactive screen, so it would be like having a touch screen computer/ phone under your skin. I dont like this idea at all, people are never going to go for having something electronic implanted into them for that purpose.

This is in my opinion the best idea for a wearable device that I found, it is a "sixth sense wearable computer". It works by projecting digital information onto any surface and hand gestures navigate it. It leaves your hands free for other tasks when your not using it, isn't strapped on where you're likely to damage it and doesn't involve getting an implant of any sort. I am going to work further on this concept to see what i can come up with.

Problems and solutions for Parts 1&2

Problems with professional/personal Facebook interactions

  • Posts both personal and professional from one Facebook profile
  • Nothing to separate/distinguish between which are professional and which are personal posts
  • Lengthy process you have to go through to update takes time which sports star might not always have enough of to waste with updates which results in their page going unused and fans can’t keep up to date with what’s going on

Patterns in Facebook interactions

  • Not a lot of updates on average
  • No steady line of use
  • Not a lot of updates to do with his swimming career
  • Posts a lot about golfing and Ravens (American football team)

Solutions

  • Could have separate areas on the one profile, one for more personal posts and one for professional posts, e.g. two separate tabs so you can select which area you are interested in keeping up to date with
  • Maybe professional/personal posts could be posted in different colours as a way of telling the difference at a glance
  • Could have automatic check-in’s with generic status at certain places of interest e.g. Golf course could be automatically checked in and say Golfing today with friends etc. or if he’s training he could be automatically checked in at his regular training spot
  • Could pick up when he mentions training or competing that a direct link to a live T.V feed or news website with info about the contest on it, could be automatically updated.
